Which Kitchen Layout Is The Most Functional?
Are you considering remodelling your kitchen? You may be feeling a little overwhelmed at the thought of such an important purchase. Whatever kitchen layout you choose it will most likely have to last a number of years so it is important to get the design right. There are some important areas to consider when planning your kitchen. It is really important to remember the working triangle in your kitchen. This triangle ensures your fridge, cooker and sink are at a comfortable distance away from each other to perform tasks conveniently.
1.Most Importantly How Do You Want Your Kitchen Layout To Function?
What is the purpose of your kitchen, apart from the obvious cooking? Do you want space for the family to relax? Do you want to entertain? Do you want to watch TV while you cook, etc? Think about what the most important functions are in your kitchen and start planning your kitchen layout from there.
2. Prep/Cooking Space
On either side of the cooker and sink, you always want to have space. You need a place to put your dishes, pots or pans while performing most tasks.
3. Storage Space
Think about your storage space carefully. Where will you want to store crockery, utensils, pots and pans etc. Look at space saving designs and cupboard interiors. There are so many fantastic ideas in the marketplace. Open shelving is a great way to mix up the constant look of your kitchen cabinets. Think about using different materials such as glass, different wood types etc. to store cookbooks, collectables or seasonal kitchen decorative items.
5. Where Are You Going to Place Your Fridge?
This can be quite tricky. Fridges are huge and you need to be able to open the door and access the drawers easily. Consider that if you place it directly beside a wall, you will not be able to open your fridge door past 90 degrees, which causes issues for opening the interior drawers. Instead, place another tall unit between the wall and fridge such as a cupboard unit.
Islands are really popular and are idea to give you additional workspace. An additional popular use is Island seating which is an ideal way to achieve casual dining in a kitchen. It can accommodate guests to sit while you cook, kids to do homework and an informal place to have dinner. Each person needs at least 24″ of space when sitting, with a 12″-14″ overhang for leg space.
7. Free Standing Furniture
Freestanding furniture gives you flexibility with your space and allows you to change the look of your kitchen with ease. A kitchen table, sideboard or dresser gives you so many different options to make your kitchen look amazing with complimentary pieces or real show stopping pieces.
Consider recycling. Equip a cabinet with separate containers for glass, plastic, and metal. A spare drawer could hold old newspapers.
