High Gloss Kitchen Cabinets – The pros and cons
It’s the time of year when we tend to consider upgrading our kitchens. The cabinet finish you choose makes an enormous impact on the look and feel of your space. Over recent years high gloss cabinets have become increasingly popular due to their spectacular visual appearance. High gloss cabinets are better suited to contemporary style kitchens rather than traditional styles. Let's consider the pros and cons.
Light reflection – The cabinets reflect light which in turn will make your room feel larger and brighter. This is particularly beneficial if you are working with a small space. Light reflection is also a bonus if you choose a darker colour as the shade will not absorb the light out of your room.
Cleaning – Easy cleaning is a big advantage and stains and marks wipe off easily with a damp non-scratch cloth. You don’t need harsh cleaning materials or solvents.
Waterproof – Cabinets are waterproof and do not require any special treatments or sealing.
Modern feel – High gloss doors give your kitchen a modern luxurious feel.
Light reflection - Due to the reflection of so much light fingerprints, dirt and scratches are much more noticeable on them than they are on matt or semi-gloss cabinets. If you do choose a darker colour any imperfections are much more noticeable than they are on lighter colour gloss doors. These would need more regular cleaning.
Cleaning – Another major drawback of a glossy surface is that it easily makes spots, smears and other marks more visible compared with a matt finish. You could use gloss on higher cabinets, as the reflection of light is more evident at eye level. If you have little ones in the home, they would also be above sticky child fingerprints level.
Prices – Due to High Gloss Doors being so popular they tend to not be the lowest price option.
